“Blooming”

We left the warmth and trade winds of Hawaii recently, to return to Sebastopol in Northern California. Spring is bursting out all over here …. plum blossoms, acaia flowers and daffodils. I’m back in my studio here….which brings me to share my newest painting.  I love creating these collage pieces…it’s sort of like playing with paper dolls. Here are some photos of the process: I start with painting the figure or face…using acrylic paints.  Then I paint flowers, leaves and such on newsprint paper…cut them out and glue onto the …

New Year 2024

I’m wishing for the New Year of 2024 to be one that welcomes the full appreciation of our amazing world. I think if I put my attention daily on a the exquisiteness of a flower…the amazing design of an insect…the total love and trust of a dog…the joy of a young child…. the promise of a sunrise….perhaps I can bring forth a practice of wonder. That’s my new years resolution.  The shifting of a paradigm. Want to join me?

A Mana Orb….called “Lava Flow”

We’ve returned to Hawaii…and to our Kawela Bay.  After a week of rain and chilly mornings, the sun has returned and the day was so beautiful. My perfect day ….a morning walk…time sitting on the beach…and then the afternoon in the studio,  creating. Heaven. It’s inspiring to walk the beaches here and to come upon shells or coconut shards and then take them back to the studio so they can sing their song to me.  Today I created a Mana Orb.  Here in Hawaii, the meaning of the word Mana …

A Gathering of Minksies

When I came across a tiny skull of a mink and turned it on it’s side….  it transformed,  through my eyes,  into a charming faerie torso and thus a new community began.  I love the unexpectedness of discovering the faerie torso…   and the invitation/inspiration to bring forth a little fae…  and so now there are many little “Minksies” out in the world.    Each one a bit different.  For some reason, I am fascinated with bones.  If you go to the top of this page to my portfolio link and …

A little bit of this and a little bit of that….

I’ve been down and out with a bad cold for about 10 days.  Finally…looking at an old metal bird piece I had found years ago, I started to imagine…what if I added this and a little bit of that… I started adding to the old metal bird, added a base…added some stones….added a crown… and I felt back to myself again.       So fun to just add this and that…. Wishing your day can find a little bit of this and a little bit of that …. a space …

Asleep in a Leaf

I was on my morning walk when I noticed beautiful fallen leaves….curling into ….baby faerie beds, of course! I dried the leaves and painted them with a preservative.  The little baby faes are sculpted in polymer clay, cured at 275 degrees…. painted and embellished with little wing appendages, antique wire netting and tiny Swaroski rhinestones. Baby Faes….asleep in their leaf beds. “Whatever lifts the corners of your mouth, trust that.” ~ Rumi Marilyn

From Palm Trees to Redwoods

The contrast from the swaying palm trees to the majestic towering redwoods is wonderful.  We left the turquoise world of Kawela Bay to return to Northern California for a bit of autumn and to spend Thanksgiving holidays with family. I love the contrast between Northern California and Hawaii….the air, the smell, the colors, the feel of the wind is all such a contrast.  Yesterday, a walk in the forest with granddaughters….Heaven! Blessings Abound !                            Marilyn

Here I Come Again…with a new website!

I have been creating and selling my artwork since I was in my 20’s, and I now enter my 78th year. I fell into the art doll market, by chance, when it was just coming on the scene and when the internet was just becoming part of our lives. There wasn’t anything like social media or Instagram. And now here I am, still creating, 50+ years later. I have discovered that the learning curve gets steeper as one ages. That’s a challenge and a gift. The challenge is that there …

Hawaii Art Studio

In our 50+ year marriage, we have lived in many different types of houses, from tiny homes to a larger compound property. It’s been great fun. I have been fortunate to claim a studio space wherever we have found ourselves. In one house it was nothing more than an alcove and in another, I could claim a huge barn. One was not really better than the other, as long as I could place my treasures around me. I recommend that everyone carve out a corner that is their own space….size …

Kawela Bay

We’ve been in Kawela since mid August and it’s now time to head back to the mainland. We sometimes vacation rent our home here and then I have to make sure all closets and drawers and personal stuff are locked away. But this time we will only be gone a bit over a month, to spend Thanksgiving with our family….so the packing up isn’t so much. While it’s aways a bit heart tugging to leave this beautiful island, I am happy to go back to Northern California where the leaves …

Tout Droit!

Never did I imagine that I would be able to travel to France. I am not a natural traveler and it seemed way too big a dream to me. But back in 2008 a dear friend asked me to join her for an art course, offered in the South of France, and I jumped at the chance. She spoke some French, which I did not, and she said that she would drive, so all I needed to do was to sit in the passenger seat and soak it all in. …
